Il apprend très tôt à jouer de la guitare et forme son premier groupe à l’âge de 15 ans. C’est grâce à cette expérience qu’il décide de se mettre au piano et de se consacrer au blues. Il a collaboré avec de grands noms tels que B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Ryan Adams et Eric Burdon.
